2004 Ford Ranger engine performance

Engine will bog down at 30k rpm in park and neutral but not while in drive. Is this a computer generated function or is it an early sign of a problem?

Yes, it is a rev limiter--part of the compuer programming. Only happens when not in gear. When in gear it changes to a higher RPM (4500 I think).
