I am trying to replace the fuel filter on my Ranger. From what I can see, there are no round steel retaining rings in the fuel lines. It appears to have a "U" shaped plastic retaining ring on each of the lines that slide into a grove in the connector and locks in place. I cannot figure how to release the retaining ring. There are two very small holes on the bottom of the groves which look like they could access a release mechanism but inserting a very small screwdriver into them does not release the plastic retaining rings. Any suggestions?

This is the clip you are looking at
then you have to remove it
if not push in at the top U into the line and pull out the filter

Risk of fire.
Keep cigarettes, sparks, open flame, and other
sources of ignition away from vehicle.

Gasoline, methanol, and oxygenated fuels are toxic
and flammable and must be handled appropriately
