Noises problem
2001 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge with a 3.0 engine my serpentine belt is making a high pitched squealing noise that only stops when I spray WD40 on it. I tried changing the belt and idler pulley that didn't help. As soon as I sprayed WD40 on the smooth side of the belt it stopped but I don't know for how long. I would like to be able to fix this problem permanently because it can be quit annoying. Can somebody please help me?

Is the tensioner holding adequate pressure on the belt? If you have sprayed it with WD-40 or any other belt "dressing", the belt is most likely no good now and will need to be replaced. Use carb cleaner to clean out all of the WD-40 from the pulley grooves. While the belt is off, spin all accessories by hand to see if one of them is making noise. The problem may be the tensioner or other accessory, not the idler.
