2001 Ford Ranger First gear is gone

Some how my first gear on my truck is GONE, i shift it to drive and nothing happens engine runs normal, when i shift in to second gear it drives fine, and when i go to second to drive it runs fine, as long as i skip first gear, i belive my first gear is shot and i dont know what to do.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation, There is little that you can do your self, this will have to be investigated by a transmission specialist, they will be able to do a full diagnosis on this and advise you on the best action to take, i would not give up hope as i could be a simple valving problem.

Ok, i just checked the codes and i am getting code P0731 which is Improper Ratio For First Gear which means i dont have a clue..lol maybe that will give you a bit of a hint maybe, maybe not..lol thanks anyways

Hi there,

That is basically saying that there is no input signal from the sensor for 1st gear, if it is not driving you wont get this signal, time to get it to a trans shop for the diagnostic test.
