We drove it to advanced auto and they used their meter. The only code that came up was the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system (EGR). The meter didnt pick anything up to do with the speedometer.

Egr valve will not cause that!

It is possible that if a part is wrong it wont throw a code, bad o2 sensors do that lots of the time.

Best way is to manually test um.

Electrical problem
2000 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 185000 miles

The truck has brief intermittant episodes where the antilock braking system light comes on, the speedometer doesn't work and the automatic transmission doesn't shift properly. As I recall isn't there an electrical component under the drivers seat that controls all three of these issues? Is that somethiing that can be easily replaced?

First a tachometer is easy easy easy to install, but I was asking if you had a factory one, to see if it was working either.

Get back to me so we can get started.

The instrument cluster utilizes a self-diagnostic system which may store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if a problem exists in the system. DTCs may be retrieved using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, or equivalent scan tool, and Data Link Connector (DLC)
