Steering problem
1999 Ford Ranger Four Wheel Drive Manual

Replaced the power steering pump with a Autozone pump 2 weeks ago my somewhat trained mechanic said it would take a few days to work out any remaining bubbles in the system. Still making noise so I raised teh front end and cranked the wheel 20 times left and right engine off. Squireted quite a bit of fluid out of the cap but still registers full. Loud groaning noise while sitting still and wheel shudders while turning left and right. I am guessing I got a bad pump the lines seem dry no leaks and the steering rack looks good. Next step?

Are Autozone pumps junk? Was cheap compared to a delco or motorcraft. Should I replace the lines alos if I replace the pump again? I pay for labor rates are
$65. $80. An hour in the area can't afford to go wrong again.

I buy nothing from AutoZone and will leave it at that.

There is a particular procedure and device that is needed from time to time to vacuum out the air bubbles or the cavitation will continue.

I have read crank the wheel l/r with the engine running w3ith the engine off with the front elevated off the ground and just sitting. Anyone what is correct? I tried it sitting l/r motor running on the ground. Fluid level was higher when started some visibile bubble and lower when finished not really shaking anymore just very loud, more so turning of course.

That method is correct, except that you need to apply vacuum to the reservior. Keeping the vaccuum at 68-85 kPa (20-25 in-Hg) and holding pressure for only 3 seconds at the stops.

There is still air in your system. Hopefully you did you use dextron for the fluid.
