1996 Ford Ranger using my heat

I know a/c will, but will using my heat in my truck affect my fuel economy and how can I improve it?

Is it normal for my Ranger to get 250 miles to an 18 gallon tank?

No your heater will not affect fuel economy your heater uses engine coolant to heat so its not using extra pwer off the engine.
