SIR, I HAVE A 1996 4.0 RANGER. MY SPEEDODOMETR READS CORRECTLY, HOWEVER MY MILEAGE & TRIP METER WILL ONLY WORK PART TIME. ABOUT 1% OF THE TIME. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WITH THE SAME TYPE TRUCK & YEAR & HE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. WE BOTH ARE EXPERIENCING GAS FILLER NECK PROBLEMS. FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK WHEN FULL.
PLUS BOTH OF OUR TRUCKS HAVE INOP FUEL GUAGES. WILL YOU PLEASE PUT A LITTLE LIGHT ON OUR PROBLEMS.
THANKS CONRAD SILCOX

I believe you will need to get a new cluster or a used good one.U can get them at ok prices at ebay. Com and get youself a better gas cap new. When something from cluster dont work is better to get a whole new one or used because its more expensive to fix one problem on it. And by the way u can install it ur self

I have the same problem that you have. What I did is that after the filling the tank and leaks, the fuel level quit working. So I had to order the filler neck from the dealer (250.00$) and a new fuel pump assembly (around 125.00$). The bad thing is that YOU MUST DROP the tank. Their was a crack in the rubber at the tank on the filler neck, and the fuel level bulb had a pinhole leak.

As far as the speedometer you can get one from the dealer for about 400.00$. Models years that will work are 96 and 97. The speedometer, fuel, electrical dashboard cluster comes in three peaces with the speedometer on the bottom of the 2.
