1994 Ford Ranger gas smell

The gas guage is in the tank it a float the sits on the fuel pump a new fuel pump assy is about 100 dollars
if the guage moves up after the engine warms up to the 1/3 mark the guage is good but if it stays at the same mark all the time is bad

if the gas smell is comin from the engine it is probably a leak on the lines some where if gas smell is comin from where the tank remove the bed and inspect the connection and vacuum lines
