1991 Ford Ranger starter stuck on

Just got truck, and tried to start and the starter stayed on drained the batter, put new battery in and tried to start with no key in, put key in turned to on and it started and started keeps turning

The sylinoid is stuck tap the sylinoid with wrench lightly and then see if it sticks.
