Engine cuts out on my Ford Probe

I have a ford probe 1994, and over the last few weeks the engine rev counter starts to go up and down then the engine cuts out. If I pull over and leave it for about a minute or two and then turn it over it starts up again. It keeps doing this intermitently. Any ideas to what the problem is?

It might be the mass airflow sensor. Check it out
