Engine Mechanical problem
1993 Ford Probe 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 185km miles

My son has just purchased a 93 Ford Probe GT with a 2.5 litre 6 cyl. When we try to start it a few things happen. I hear two clicks and the air bag light comes on. The following lights come on right away, engine check, brake, ABS, the Fuel Cutoff light comes on, but the switch in the trunk is reset and ok. Once I try to tune the engine over the starter grinds so I turn the key off. I will do this a bunch of times and once in a while the engine actually begins to turn over, but only for a few seconds than dies. I cleaned the plug wires and distributor some corrodians. The number 5 plug wire has a lot of iol on it and I tried to clean it. Please help if you can.

Check/replace the ignition switch (behind the key barrel). Sounds like it is sticking. Is it just the plug WIRE not the actual firing end of the plug covered in oil. If so, replace the wires

It is the actual plug wire that attaches to the spark plug.

Just replace the plug wires in that case. I still think your no start issue is related to the ignition switch. A common fault on fords ! Let me know

I'll give that a shot. Funny you should mention that. The past owner said he had to replace the whole steering colum because the car was stolen and in doing so the theives broke the colum to get away. Thanks I will keep you posted.
