No gears!

I had stopped at a turning and put my car into first gear. As I went to pull away it popped out of first gear. I then tried to put it back in gear but I had no gears at all. When you move the gearstick it feels like a spoon in a mixing bowl!Any advice on what this could be and how to go about trying to fix it would be much appreciated.

That kinda sounds like what happened to my old car. It was standard and when I stopped and tried to go again it did the same thing you said. I kept my foot off of the clutch pedal I could move the shifter in and out of all the gears. Are you able to do that with a little resistance? Is that what you meant?

The reason I ask is because when I had it towed to a mechanic they took the transmission off and told me my clutch was in many many tiny little pieces basically disintigrated inside my engine. So you might want to have that looked at.

No, when I lift the clutch the gears are still non existent, there is nothing there the gearstick just moves in all directions. It just feels really loose all the time, clutch down or not. Someone mentioned that it could be something to do with the gear linkage, but thanks for the advice I will have my partner check for me though cos that does sound quite serious, how much was it to repair if u dont mind me asking?

Are you saying that it doesn't go into the normal gear spots? You can just move it all over the place? Cause that would be a completely different story and yes it could be the linkage.

As far as my repair, it cost around $950 cause they resurfaced the flywheel and put a stage 2 performance clutch in and made me happy with a nice discount :)

Then ya that would be your linkage. When what I was telling you about happened to me I was able to go into all the normal gear locations but when I let out the clutch no go.

You're gonna want to take off the shift boot and look in there and make sure everything is connected and if it is look around in the engine compartment towards the transmission to see if anything is just hanging there and let me know.
