Ford Mustang Electrical Problem

Hi there,

I have a 1969 Mustang that has developed an electrical problem. My brake lights are not lighting, and when I press the brake pedal the dash lights go out - they come back on a few seconds after I release the brake. I'm not sure if this is related but the right rear turn signal lamp is also not going. It flashes too fast, and also the interior lights dim in time with the flasher when the right turn signal is on. I have checked and swapped out the bulbs with no change?

Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks!

I throw out the one obvious cause to many of the problems - age. I suspect the car is well cared for, but age does take its toll. There are grounds that are not grounding. Parts that naturally ground against the body just don't do it any more.

I suggest looking at this possible solution. Nice car! Keep it around!

Thanks Bruce, you're right, it is well cared for, a dream car in fact, being a big block 390 it's a fairly rare model for 69. My only problems since owning it have been niggly electrical ones. While I like to tackle most problems myself - after a few hours without success I guess it may be time for a local expert to take a look!
