Hello,
My son owns a 2002 Mustang. Being a new driver he really doesn't play attention to his cars performance. The other day I had to move it out of the driveway and I noticed the engine was idling very high when put in reverse it seemed to jump. I tried again giving it some gas and it was fine. Do you think it needs a tune-up or maybe something more extensive?
Thanks for your time.

I think if the engine was cold at the time, it had a high idle by design! Any roughness in the idle? After a minute or two the idle will come down to normal, and then try test again...

Thanks for your quick response merlin! I just don't understand why the gas pedal sticks and the engine idles high and when put in reverse it jumps. When the gas is pressed quickly the engine seems to idle down. My son has had this car now for 5 months and this has never happened before. I just thought I would get an idea of the problem before I take it in for repairs. I appreciate your time.
