Engine will not crank over?

Car was fine, then it suddenly would not start. The battery is fine, no clicking, but it will not crank at all. Unfortunately, this happened a couple days before major neck surgery, so now it has been sitting idle in the garage for seven months. Help? I tried the starter relay, but that is not it. I cannot spend a lot on replacement parts only to find they are not the issue.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition including a load test. Make sure terminal ends are clean then try resetting security system if no manual look online for your car on how to reset it.

While driving, my car chugged twice then died. I am unable to restart the car, the engine won't even turn over. We have checked the battery and starter, both needed replacement. All dash lights and headlights work, and we are getting power to the starter (tested with a volt meter). The battery terminals are clean and we have tested the relay and checked the fuses. Suggestions? Does this sound like an electrical or engine problem?

If it cranks over the starter has done its job. Try carb cleaner in the throttle body-did it start and stall? If so check the fuel pressure and comeback with the readings

Earlier you said you're getting power at the starter-have a helper put key to start position and bang on the starter if it kicks and engages the engine -defective starter.

We've tried that, with the old starter and the brand new one (installed last night), no luck. Thanks for your prompt answers. Much quicker than I had anticipated!

You might want to triple check the battery condition and its connection make sure its clean and tighten, also at the starter relay and starter

First problem I had was a battery issue. I fixed that and then the car turns a second then locks up. We have changed the starter also, but it is doing the same thing. I have never had a motor do this. My car is the Bullitt model.

Can you turn the engine 2 to 2-1/2 full revolutions, in its normal direction with the key off?

Using a ratchet or a wrench on the harmonic balancer bolt? (Picture of my 1977 Jeep CJ-5 6 cylinder below).

Other than a mechanical issue or failure, coolant in a cylinder (head gasket) cannot be compressed and will show your symptoms.

Removing the plugs and turning it might verify this possibility.

Any recent abnormal issues happen prior to this?

Okay find the transmission range sensor left rear side of transmission check for power at the red and light blue wire-nothing there check fuse no.6 20amp at central junction box behind dash left of steering column. Then report back

I will give that a try in the morning. Car sat for a while, which is why the battery was dead. Hooked the jump box to it and it started. Though it did do this at this point. Possible symptoms of a starter going back so we changed it. When you turn the key it turns over very short and then whole engine jumps like it would be locking up. Prior to this no real issues. Use to be my daily driver.

Occasionally car wont crank over. Ive got power to everything. When I turn the key nothing happens. After a few minutes it usually starts right up. Car runs great and has never given me any problems until now. Im not sure if ive got a lose wire on the starter? If there is a swith on the clutch pedal that may be going bad since the clutch pedal has to be depressed for the car to start? Ignition switch going bad? Any ideas? Please help!
