I just had a new compressor and associated parts installed two weeks ago and the repair guy said that I needed a new AC control module as he had to bypass the high pressure cutoff to make the system work.

Well long story short I was sitting in traffic when all of a sudden I was in a cloud of refrigerant and the car shut off, I turned off the a/c and restarted the car just fine and went to turn it on again and it immediately started to chug so I turned the air off for good.

My main question is: I don't have the money to fix any of this right now but have the ability to save up some cash over the next few months. From the sounds of my story do you think I will need a new compressor again, is mine shot from running when the high pressure blew out?

They never should have bypassed the high pressure switch that's crazy and dangerous. It could have damaged the compressor. Does the center of the a/c clutch turn freely?
