I have a 1998 Ford Mustang GT (4.6) with 99K miles. Last summer (I live in SC. Gets pretty hot here) the air conditioner stopped blowing cold. I took it to a Ford dealership and the guy convinced me that it needed a new alternator. It didn't make any sense to me either, but it did work for a while. But it would stop every once in a while, but never long enough for me to take it back to the dealer. Well hot weather is coming again and my air conditioner is acting up again. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't. Usually I turn it on and after turning it off, turning it to VENT, off, one, off, etc. It will usually start blowing cold once I am close to my destination. To make it even more frustrating is that sometimes it seems to work just fine. Any ideas for me to go into the dealership with this time?

As with any A/C system, the pressures need to be verified first. If they are ok, it sounds like there may be a inline pressure switch that is going out and cant handle the load being pulled through it.A/C systems have these switches to protect the system by not letting it run if the pressures are too low
