Yesterday my Mustang developed an odd problem. The turn signals will work with the ignition off but will not work with the ignition on.
The hazards work either way. All functions on the combination switch work.
I replaced the ignition switch but no change.

Any Ideas?

Checked the fuses again as suggested, they are all good.

Figured that I would throw some more parts at it.

Started with the cheapest, the flasher unit. $8 from Auto Zone.

Installed it and everything is back to normal.

Still don't know why. Seems like if the flasher was bad the signals would not work at all. It is an electronic flasher, so I guess something went wrong inside it.

Almost makes sense because the hazards will work anytime. Guess something got crossed up and caused the turn signals to work with the key in the wrong position.

We can file that one away for future reference.

That's where I was going if fuse was good when car is running that fuse powers turn signals through flasher. With engine off power comes from another fuse and operate flashers also. It's a Ford thing
Good Job
