I took my car to a garage to get a few things fixed with it recently while I was there they confronted the issue a lot of Fords are known to have which is like a false check engine indication light. my wife had this car since 1996 of the dealership lot, but she says 1yr after she had it, it's been an issue but as I'm sure you're going to tell me next which is the only way I've been able to pass inspection is to wait till the gas is about at a 1/4 of a tank. The mechanic (at an undisclosed location for safety sake) mentioned the Check Engine light will typically go off at 1/4 or 3/4 but in my experience with the vehicle 1/4 for all intensive purposes.
Anyway I took it there the mechanic addressed that is a known issue with some makes & models by Ford, by his process of elimination he conclued that the Purge Canister Valve & the EGR Sensor need replacement. He told me the amount & I said I couldn't spend that kinda money.
He ended up taking the time to print me out a diagram of the two things that needed replacement the Purge Canister Valve & the EGR Sensor. I bought both & the EGR Sensor from a Ford Manufacture. I first replaced the Purge Valve that was easy. Started the engine it worked just fine. Then I replaced the EGR Sensor, turned the engine over it started! but it didn't stay started & when I did start it it did rev a lil' high but nothing I found unusual. I looked at my work & thought perhaps I didn't get the hoses REF & HI far enough in. So I unscrewed it made sure a 2nd time they were really in there good, tightened all back up still didn't start. I thought well when something new doesn't work put the old one back on cause it worked before, well I've done that making darn sure things were really tight double checking even though it's pretty simple gave the engine a start for the 3rd time & still the same exact thing.
What's possible that I'm doing wrong? Is there some weird computer thingy that needs to reset something is that why I'm having this issue?
Thank you for all your help & reading this the whole way through, hopefully I can find resolution in your answer. I really need to take care of my state inspection.

PS while I switched out the EGR Sensor I never let go of the REF hose so I would know when I would put the other one on which one to plug it into. I included a picture of what is currently the old EGR Sensor hooked up but I sent it so you wouldn't have any doubts things were being put back right as they were before.
Thank you

OK first let me say that he false engine light thing not true and never had this problem with any of my Fords not on my Mustang or my F-150. Now you never mentioned the code that was found with the engine light. I need to know what the codes are or where. Now as for the pic looks correct. I also need to know if there are any performance mods? Get back to me with the needed info and we will go from there.
