1986 Ford Mustang idle

when I start the car it idles fine, after I drive for about 10 to 15 min the idle will go up to about 1200 to 1500, some times it will go as hi as 1800. Some times the idle will slow to normal on its own other times I will have to turn the engine off and restart it to get the idle to come down. Any sugestions?

Sounds like a sticky Idle Air Control Valve. You can try cleaning it with carb cleaner, it may fix it. If not you will have to replace it. Also check for vacuum leaks, but the IAC sounds like the problem

Definitely sounds like a bad iac valve. These are so problematic I would not hesitate to replace, there is a slight chance that it is something else like a sticking tps but its unlikely.
