What is required to change the ATF on a Focus? I read a post on eHow that said to just disconnect the tube that goes into the radiator, start the engine and let the auto trans fluid be pumped out into a pan. Then add the new fluid through a filler tube next to the AT dipstick. Is that it? It's okay to run the engine without AT fluid?

No, that is not OK. That is the principle that Trans flush machines use but they return an equal amount with what it pumped out so it stays full. Your better off to just let them do it with the machine. You will make an ungodly mess trying to do that and could damage the trans by running it low. Whatever you do, make sure you use MerconV fluid and nothing else.
