My car is a 2001 Ford Focus w/ 95,000 miles. It runs rough on accleration and sometimes when it idlesand the check engine light is on, it smooths out when I drive for a few minutes. Also when I first start it I can smell sulfur.

Im not sure what the sulphur smell is, but as for the stalling problem, I have two ideas. The first thought I have is that one or more of your vacuum hoses is cracked or dislodged. The first one I would check is the one towards the back of the motor on the bottom. If all of the hoses are ok, I would start looking toward the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF). Start by cleaning the one you have. (You can get a can of Mass Air Flow cleaner at you local auto parts store, or if you have Non-Chlorinated Brake Cleaner you can use that too). If that doesn't work you may have to replace the MAF.
