1991 Ford Festiva 1991 Ford Festiva stalling/starting probl

My 1991 Ford Festiva began stalling when in idle. It ran fine as long as it was not in idle. This went on for about 6 months and recently, it just did not start anymore. I read the Haynes manual and think it might be a fuel system problem, but I am not sure. I t could be any number of things according to the Haynes manuel. Any advice on what this problem might be, or where to begin the diagnosis process?

Thanks for the donation.

The first two places to start diagnosing is the spark plugs and the fuel rail. Pull spark plugs one at a time to check for bright blue spark jumping from plug to wires while assistant bumps engine. If all plugs have good spark, check fuel pressure at fuel rail with fuel pressure gauge. This will better pinpoint wether it is a spark issue or a fuel issue. Post the results and I will follow up.
