Good Morning,
I have a slight shimmey and wanted to replace the steering damper/stabilizer. I set out to replace the part. The trouble I am having is I cannot get the OEM part off. I removed the frame mounted side of the OEM stabilizer. I then went to remove the drag-link end, but could not get the tapered pin out. I tried to use a hammer, but was unsure if this is the correct method. I could not get the tapered pin side out. I didn't know if a little more "pursuasion" was necesary. Frustrated, I simply re-attached the OEM stabilizer and re-torqued all the nuts. Can you please give me some advice?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim. Welcome to the forum. That stud comes out the same as the tapered studs on the tie rod ends. Banging next to it on the drag link might work, otherwise, they make a tie rod removal tool that you screw down to put pressure on the stud. The extra force from the hammer blows will get the stud to understand your intentions.

The problem with just hitting the end of the stud is the drag link is so long, it just bounces to absorb the shock rather than let the stud take the force.
