I have a 1989 F350 w/460 V8 and 124K miles. I has started almost dying when I press on the accelerator and go from idle to acceleration. Also when I'm coasting down a hill with my foot off the gas pedal, it back fires. What's the concensus, a vacum leak or possibly the throttle position switch?

Thank you Mark Taylor

Check and test all the following below:

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)
Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
