95 Ford Probe

My probe befuddles me! The rpm gauge jumps to 2500 when shifting from first to second IN AN AUTOMATIC! And jerks hard too. And its making this clacking metallic rattling sound every few drives lately. Any tips/advice.

The metallic clacking sounds like a cv axle, the jump in rpm sounds like the tranny is slipping, may need overhaul.
