I have a 1993 ford diesel 7.3 liter with garret turbo that will not start every now and then, the batterys are brand new and the alt is good it will start sometimes even if it is hot or cold outside and when it does start it runs good but every now and then I will stop and let it cool down before I shut the key off and then when I wait over an hour and try and start it again it will not turn over, I have noticed that sometimes when I turn the key on the glow plugs will click about 5 times an other times it will click alot more I dont know what is going on if anyone has any troubleshooting ideas to find out what the problem is with this dang truck I would be very happy for any ideas im lost.

Hey was reading an article just a few hours ago about this, Check to electrical leads that power the glow plugs, one of them may have worn the insulation off of one of the wires causing a short in the system and giving symptoms as you describe of intermittently being unable to start the engine. I haven't seen one of these engines yet but from how I understood it it happens under the rocker cover. So check from the top of the glow plug all the way back to where the lead enters the wiring harness
Good luck hope it helps.
