Engine Mechanical problem
1960 Ford F250 Two Wheel Drive Manual

I was told by my machanic that the rear main bearing in the motor is bad on a 223 inline 6 in a 55 ford pick up. This truck is all original and I want to maintain the original. What is the best cost option for this problem rebuild or replace?

Hi andycalton
Glad to see someone going that extra mile to keep a piece of history on the road. Is there oil leaking at the rear main?
If you plan to keep truck on the road for years to come and motor has not been rebuilt I would rebuild to keep truck original.
If you do most of the work yourself cost can be kept down. If you need someone to do the work look for a Ford car club in area they will be helpfull. Also you may find an old car/truck rehab shop near you. Several places to get parts for rebuild Northern or PAW and on this site check out Car Replacement Parts.
If you live in FLA I would love to rebuild ran a Vintage Repair shop for years and maybe older and slower but I can geter done.
