Loud clacking noise coming from the engine?

If there was a loud clacking noise coming from the engine is there any mechanic who would drive the truck to his shop any distance at all. And with the noise coming from the top of the engine what would make you think it was the fly wheel. Could a bad fly wheel throw a rod?

Good morning,

When there is engine noise, it can come from anywhere. A flywheel that is cracked can sound like a valve lifter noise. It can also be mistaken for a rod knock.

You need an experienced tech who is familiar with engine noises and how to determine the origin of the noise.
