89' Ford F-150 V8 5.0 Need help with drive belt!

The drive belt came off of my 89' Ford F150 v8 5.0 this morning and I have been trying to get it back on. I am only able to slide my alternator about a quarter of an inch downwards to try to get the belt back on but the belt seems to be WAY to tight! My friend who knows trucks a bit said it is way to tight. I need help please. The drive belt is in very good shape, just need to get it back on its guides. I very much appreciate any information I can get. Thanks!

Your belt rotation should look something like this; The idler pulley must be depressed with a 1/2 breaker bar to install the belt. You should also have a sticker on your hood, if it hasn't come off.
