If check engine light on
should check for codes
need to use an OBDII reader, scanner

to reset check engine code also an OBDII can do it
or disconnecting negative side of the battery for few minuets will do

the only thing with disconnecting the battery is that all additive memory will be lost and PCM have to relearn it all
so you may experience stalling or hard shifting...
