Noises problem
2004 Ford F150 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles

Our truck just started making this grinding sound on cold startup. It sounds like a blender with rocks basically. The sound last maybe 10 seconds and then goes away. We did notice the 4 wheel drive making an odd sound at times and having trouble switching over this past winter, but other than that, we have not had any issues with this truck really.
Any thoughts as to what this could be?

Do you know what engine you have? I know some had a concern with timing chain tensioners going bad causing a engine noise.

5.4L 3 valve triton

I just looked under the hood and read what is on the engine itself. Does that help? :)

Sounds like a possible timing chain tensioner of a possible lifter bleeding down.
