How much in general should it cost to diagnose a service engine light, and if it indicates a thermostat issue, then replace the thermostat and coolant?

You should not pay more than 1 hour diagnostic time plus approx 1 hour to replace thermostat plus the normal charge for a cooling service in your area, (that could vary from $49-$89 on average. I hope this helps.
