I have a 2001 Ford F150 with 4.2 V-6 engine. A couple weeks ago the engine service light came on and it ran fine till the other day when it started missing while lugging the engine and accelerating or pulling hard. It dose not miss while idling. While accelerating hard the engine service light will start blinking. I had a scan run on the engine and it turned up the left & right banks were running lean and #2 cylinder was miss firing. I changed all spark plugs and plug wires and it did not solve the problem. What would be the next thing to check out for this problem?

This could be a fuel filter or even pump prob. I would change the filter and prob is still there run fuel pressure test.

Relative to the lean codes, I had a similar problem with my 2000 F-150, 4.2l. Ultimately, I found a vacuum leak. The leak was on the PCV line going to the intake manifold. You may want to clean the MAF sensor (be careful). Sometimes it becomes fouled due to residues and dirt which results in erroneous readings. A good electrical parts cleaner would work. Not sure about the misfire. I have the same on cyls 2 and 3. I suspect fuel injectors but havn't confirmed it yet.
