I removed the keys from the ignition and the power was still on. I figured that the switch finally died. So I replaced it with a new one and nothing changed the power stays on.

Check the ignition switch, we can go from there, could be related but morst likely are two separate problems.

Is the key just spinning in thte tumbler without tension? Or does it feel normal?

Hmm, could be a broken control arm in the steering column causing no response from it, have that checked, and ill do some more research here.
