1997 Ford F150 Transmission quits when hot

When the transmission gets hot on my F150 it quits completely and you have to pull to the side of the road. When it cools off you are good to go but there is still a humming noise. I pulled the pan and the fluid and filter look fine. There was no sign of metal shavings or other particles of any kind. Help!!!

OK have the codes read at autozone, they do it free, you may have a tranny temp sensor thats no good.
