Brake Warning Light

The brake light on the dash stays on. The emergency brake is not engaged, and I've checked the pedal to make sure it wasn't slightly depressed. It did go out for a short period of time while driving, but came back on after applying the brakes to stop. What could be the cause of this?

There are two main reasons the brake warning light is coming on either you or low on fluid or you have a imbalance of pressure in the system like a leak or the master cylinder is bad. Here is a guide to help you figure out the problem:

Thanks for the information. I did some checking from the guide you gave and replaced the master cylinder. All good now.
