Transmission problem
1988 Ford F150 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

was driveing down road went to downshift and the shift would not come out of third gear I hold in clutch at a standstill it stays running let t out it stalls like it should just cant get it to shift out of gear

If it doesn't shift to 5th gear even with the engine off, either there is a linkage problem or there are internal transmission problems.

Have you checked the linkage?
