Engine Mechanical problem
1986 Ford F150 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1986 ford f-150 and when I parked it in July it was running. I recently took the carb off the truck and now when I put it back on to move the truck it won't start. It cranks but won't start. I hooked all the hoses and everything back up the same way I took them off but it still doesn't start. I smell gas coming from the carb. I have also put a little gas in the carb. And it will start but when gas burns off it dies and just goes back to cranking and not starting.

Ok it starts when you put gas in it but then burn that fuel and dies? Have you checked to see if gas is coming out when you pump the accelorator? What you need to do is take the air cleaner off and open the choke and pump it while looking down inside is there any gas coming out when you do that? If not you should check you fuel pressure first your fuel pump could have went bad otherwise the carb float is sticking. Hope this helps you.

When I pump the pedal through the engine there is gas that shoot into the carb. When I take the fuel line off that is connected to the filter in front of the carb it has gas in it. It just wont start. And when I turn the key to crank it it keeps cranking even with the ignition turned off and the keys are in my hand. It's a 5.8 liter with a 2bbl carb on it. All my lines are connected, air lines and fuel lines are all connected. It's just mind boggling.
