Electrical problem
1986 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive 146000 miles

I have two fuel pumps on my vehicle one in the tank and the other on the frame rail, I was wondering if I took the power from the one on the rail does the 2nd one still get power? And if it does should I be able to get a reading from the pressure release valve on the fuel rail?

- but I grounded the tester under the hood to make the rear pump continously run and it didn't pump any fuel out of the tank

The one on the rail is a high pressure pump and that is what supplies you with the fuel pressure, then one in the tank is used to get gas to the high pressure pump.

If you cut the power out of one of them, you will get no fuel pressure and vehicle will not run.

I was told that I can easily installed an electric fuel pump to my 1986 ford f150 6 cyl and it will work better than the old crankshaft driven one. The one now isnt working at all even trying it from hooking the intake hose from the pump into a can of gas. Any hopes or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
