My 1985 ford f150 is idling very rough. Causing a lot of cabin shake. Drives fine but idling is the problem. Then engine does not cut-off right away when you turn the key. It runs for a little and then chugs to a stop

what can I do to correct>

Check your vacuum hoses for leaks and repair. Check plugs and wires and change them if need be. Let me know what happens.

300 cid six is notorious for vacuum leaks. EGR, intake manifold, base gasket on carb, among others. Mine was leaking around #1 cylinder, and EGR valve.I replaced the intake gasket every 40,000to 50,000 miles.I finally got pissed off, I bought a davis unified ignition, offy intake, holley 390 4 barrel, (about $900 for all)and took off all the pollution equipment(except the cat), It looks like a tractor motor now, runs smooth as silk, and moves out like you would'nt believe! If you just want to try a quick fix, replace the intake gasket, this motor needs no exhaust gasket !And don't forget to loosen the bolts that hold the manifolds together, before you boltyour assembly up to to the motor!
