I have a 1997 Ford Explorer 4 wheel drive 6 cyl. With 101,000 miles. My windshield wipers work on very fast but nothing else. I was told it was the motor by one garage and that it was the switch that goes in the steering wheel by the other garage. What could it be? The same switch controls the wiper fluid and that work also the signal lights and high beams work.

I can tell you this, unless you know your way around a DVOM and are comfortable taking a steering column apart, you will have to buy one or the other and test it that way! Try a junkyard switch.
