I have a 1999 ford explorer xtl awd with 210,000 this morning on my way to work as I turned out on to our 4 lane my GAS PEDAL locked up.I got on the shoulder and had to slam on the pedal to dislodge it. What do I need to look for so this doesn't happen again thank you

Look for a kinked, frayed or binding throttle cable. It could also be a worn or damaged throttle bottle. Before taking it to a mechanic, just look under the dash at the cable and mechanism. Then look under the hood where the dable attaches to the throttle body. Make sure there are no foreign objects caught inthe linkage.

Most likely the flap in the Thottle body is gummed up with carbon. IT can be cleaned out.
