Cruise control switch 98 Explorer

How do I eplace the switch on a 1998 Ford explorer Switch is broken - have new swiitch but can not get top of steering whell off to get to it. Thank you for any help

Are you sure it's the switch? Did you perform a self diagnostic on it? If you think it needs switches, remove the neg batt cable for 2 mins. This is so air bag does not deploy! Use a dull or plastic knife and get under the endge of the switch you want to remove and gently peel it out, you don't need to remove the steering wheel. This is for in wheel switches! If you have the switch on an arm, seperate the 2 plastic steering column covers and unbolt it.

here is a picture of the switch (for a 1998 ford explorer) it appears that it has to be screwed in and they are on the edge of the steering wheel I know I will have to unhook the battery for 2 minutes before replacing but can this be accomplished by just lifting the edge of the air bag/ horn/ center of steering wheel???? or does it have to be removed? If so how to do it without damaging air bag assenbly?

Just unscrew the screws on the back of the wheel and lift the air bag out.
