I have a 2004 ford explorer xlt, V6 4.0 engine that will not start. I have a brand new battery and alternator. Both were taken to autozone to be tested. I was told it could be transponder key, I had a locksmith try and reprogram the key and it still would not start. I have had the fuses checked and none seem to be bad. When the key is put in the ignition they red light blinks red really fast, and when the car is turned I hear like a clicking noise. A friend who is a mechanic tried jump starting by hitting the starter but the car would sound like it was going to start but would not catch. If someone could please direct me in the best possible direction so I can save on tows or other possible waste of money, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

You need to have a scanner

also try and disconnect the battery negative side for a few min and then reconnect

remove steering wheel cover and check wiring

if doesn't work have to have scanner to check the system

Ok, thanks. I have tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting and no difference.
But I will try other suggestions.
Where do I go about having someone use a scanner? Mechanic shop or is there other options?

Most local shop should have the correct scanner to communicate and check for trouble codes

good luck
