I drove my Ford Explorer on a 6 hour round trip drive over the weekend, when I noticed on the way back I was hearing a whining noise coming from the front. When I came to a stop the noise would stop. Now my wife drove the SUV and it stopped on her and she said that the steering wheel was shaking a little. She was able to start the vehicle back up and the check engine light along with the service wrench light were on. What does this indicate? I know that this year Explorer has a sealed transmission, I'm praying that the transmission is not going out. I just paid the Explorer off.

Ok first off we need to know why the engine light came on. To figure that out you will need to call around to you local parts stores and see if one will do a free scan. Go there and have it scanned and write down all the codes P? Is what you will find. Now after getting the codes have them clear them and get back to me with the codes and we will see what the truck is trying to tell us. As for a sealed transmission that isn't so you can have the trans serviced this what is know as a filter and fluid change anyway lets get the codes and see what is going on there first.
