Recently our check engine light came on steady and the O/D light flashes while driving. We also noticed 2nd gear sticking. We took it into the Ford Dealership (in The Netherlands where we live) and instead of giving us an actual code number, they told us the computer results were:
Diagnose - transmission problem
fault code - gear ratio in 2nd and 5th gear
hub and bearing (left & right) front needs to be replaced

The cost of vehicle repairs here is astronomical so we would like to fix the problem ourselves. Can you tell us what the information they gave us means (other than the obvious about the hub & bearings). Is there anything else that needs to be looked at/fixed?

Ok with the hubs that one is as you said ovious that you should replace them. As for the other without the code which is needed we would be guessing. The trans codes should be P0732 and P0735 if I have found correctly. I must ask how does it shift from gear to gear as you drive? Do you have a digital multi meter?

I don't know about 5th (I don't drive that fast normally), but 2nd gear is sticking. It is staying in 2nd well past the time it should have shifted into 3rd (it doesn't shift to third until about 3500-4000 rpms). I can get a digital multimeter.

So tell me first what are the codes that where found? I need those to give acurate advise. If you don't know then call around to your local parts stores and see if one will do a free scan and get those codes.
