Computer problem
2003 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Automatic 90'000 miles

I recently installed a K&N filter and intake tube on explorer. Shortly after, check engine light came on. I checked the codes with hand held OBD reader and found codes 171 & 174. System to lean- Bank 1 or 2. After erasing the codes, to allow for the computer to re-set ( the instal directions stated ) the same codes are coming back every 2 or 3 weeks. The vehicle runs great otherwise and the new filter has improved power and mileage. I sure hope you can help me eliminate this anoying CE light?

A lean mixture is usually the result of a vacuum leak. Did you have to remove any when you installed this? Also is the maf sensor still connected?

Maf. Sensor was re-installed and vacuum hose to intake received new clamps. Is there a way to clean the maf. Sensor, or should I buy a new one?

Yes the maf can be cleaned. They actually make a special cleaner just for them. Most parts stores will have it.

Let me know if it helps.
