Air conditioner blows cold, but blows thru the defroster vents up by the windshield & when I turn it on, it throws a code to "check engine". Code relates to the air conditioner.

You are dealing with a vacuum leak in this case. The vent doors that direct air flow are vacuum actuated. Check under the dash for damaged or disconnected hoses. If you are lucky, you may hear a hissing sound with the engine running.

Let me know what you find.

Let me know. The vent doors won't set a check engine light.

They are a pain in the & % to find. If you can stand the smell and can be really careful, take some starter fluid and spray it around the hoses. If there is a leak, it will cause the engine to rev-up. That is if the hose is still connected to the engine. However, please remember, keep the doors open for fresh air to you, and starting fluid is extremely flamable. Keep it away from anything that is extremely hot or could cause a spark.
